Black Rocks, 1978. Death Valley National Park, California
This pattern image was shot along the jeep road to Lemoigne
Canyon in Death Valley. I was moved by the clean simplicity and stark
contrast of the black rocks randomly scattered on the white alkali-crusted
ground. I used 4x5 Tri-X film, no filter, and normal development.
This image works nicely with a print color of warm selenium brown
to enhance the rich, luminous values.
